Section 4 Castings and Steel Forgings
401. Application
The requirements in this Section apply to tests and inspection for the approval of manufacturing process of castings and steel forgings as specified in Pt 2, Ch 1, Sec 5 and 6 of the Rules.
402. Data to be submitted
The following reference data in addition to those specified in 102. are to be submitted Society.
(1) Material grade of products, use and Max. mass
(2) Kind of products, Chemical composition and mechanical properties
(3) Method of heat treatment
(4) Purchaser's name of steel forgings and manufacturer's name of ingot
(5) Forging methods
(6) Data for mould and casting
(7) List of personnel in charge of the non-destructive test(holding of licence and its kind)
to the
403. Factory
The provisions for the approval of the factory are applicable when any of factories specified lowing (1) through (3) manufactures castings and steel forgings.
(1) Factory manufacturing these products by its own manufacturing facilities (including all facturing processes)
in fol- manu-
(2) Factory manufacturing these products by its own manufacturing facilities (including forging ma-
chine and heat treatment furnace, other factories.
(3) Factory given in (1) or (2) above ties (including surface hardening
products manufactured by others.
(4) The manufacturer who supply the
etc.), but steel ingots and blooms are to be purchased from
manufacturing these products by its own manufacturing facili- treatment and heat treatment processes) using semi-finished
raw materials(blooms, billets, slabs, etc.) of forgings is to ob-
tain the Society's
quirements in Pt
approval of manufacturing process of raw materials in accordance with the re-
2, Ch 1, Sec 2-2 of the Rules. In this case, in addition to the test items
specified in Table 2.2.4, tensile test, impact test, hardness test and non-destructive tests are to be carried out additionally.
404. Classification of materials
The castings and steel forgings to comply with the requirements of the Section are classified as shown in Table 2.4.1.
405. Approval tests
1. Approval tests are to be carried out as given in Pt 2, Ch 1, Sec 5 and 6 of the Rules.
2. Impact test, macro structure test and/or hardness test, etc. may be additionally required by the Society where deemed necessary.
3. Selection of test samples and approval tests, in principle, are to be carried out in the presence of the Surveyor.

406. Changes in the manufacturing process
In case changes occur in the approval content among manufacturing process of castings and steel forgings which have been granted approval beforehand, such as those given in the followings, the manufacturer is to submit the application of alteration to the Society together with the documents in response to the content of changes.
(1) Steel making process of castings, mould and casting method, treatment method and heat treat- ment method of ingot steel, etc.
(2) Purchaser's name of steel forgings and manufacturer's name of ingot, forging method and heat
treatment method, etc.
(3) Max. mass of castings and steel
407. Dealings after approval
Castings and steel forgings which conform to the requirements in this Section are to be dealt with
as [in approval case] in the requirements in specified by the Society.
